Ayurvedic Medicine For Erectile Dysfunction

Ayurveda defines erectile dysfunction as follows.

Sankalpapravano nityam priyaam vashyaamapi sthreeyam ||
na yaathi lingashaithilyaath kadaachidyaathi vaa yadi |
Shwaasaarthaha swinnagaatrshcha moghasankalpacheshtitaha ||
mlaanashishnashcha nirbeejaha syodetat klaibyalaxanam |

This means that although a man has a strong desire to perform sexual act with a cooperative partner, who can not perform sexual act because of looseness (absence of erection) of his phallus (penis). Even if carried out sexual acts with their determined efforts not get erection and gets afflicted with tiredness, perspiration and frustration to perform sex.

Erectile dysfunction (ED), which is the inability of man to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the needs of your partner. Erectile dysfunction can be sometimes called "impotence." The term "erectile dysfunction" can mean the inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or the ability to achieve only brief erections.

Physiology of erection
The two chambers of the penis (corpora cavernosa) that run thought the organ is filled with spongy tissue. The corpora cavernosa are surrounded by a membrane called the tunica albuginea. The spongy tissue contains smooth muscles, fibrous tissues, spaces, veins and arteries. The urethra, which is the channel for urine and semen runs along underside of the corpora cavernosa ...

Due to sensory or mental stimulation, or both, the erection begins. Due to impulses from the brain and local nerves the muscles of the corpora cavernosa to relax and allow blood to flow and fill the spaces of spongy tissue.

The flow of blood creates pressure in the corpora cavernosa, making the penis expand. The tunica albuginea helps trap the blood in the chambers, thereby sustaining erection. When muscles in the penis contract to stop the inflow of blood and open outflow channels, erection is removed.

In ayurveda physiology of erection and ejaculation is described as follows
Vrishunow basthimedram cha naabhyuuru vankshnow gudam |
Apaanasthaanamantrasthaha shukra mootra shakrunti cha ||

The 'apaanavayu "one of the five types of vayu is located in the testicles, urinary bladder, phallus, umbilicus, thighs, groin, anus and colon. Its functions are ejaculation of semen, voiding of the urine and feces.

Shushruta explains the process of erection and ejaculation - When a man has desire (iccha) for sex, his response to touch increases. (Vayu located in skin causes flow of signals from skin to brain, causing the sensation of touch). This causes arousal or "Harsha". Arousal or Harsha intensifies actions of vayu and at this moment highly active vayu liberates the "teja" or heat of pitta. So tiles and vayu increase body temperature, heart rate and blood flow causing erection.

Causes of erectile dysfunction

An erection requires a sequence of events. Erectile dysfunction can occur when any of the events is disrupted. Nerve impulses in the brain, spine, around the penis and response in muscles, fibrous tissues, veins and arteries in and around the corpora cavernosa constitute this sequence of events. Injury to any of these pieces that are part of this sequence (nerves, arteries, smooth muscles, fibrous tissues) can cause ED.

Low levels of testosterone hormone: The main male hormone is testosterone. After 40 years of age, the testosterone level of a man gradually declines. About 5% of men that doctors see for erectile dysfunction have low testosterone levels. In many cases, low testosterone can cause a reduced sexual interest, not erectile dysfunction.

The whole male body responds to testosterone.

Even sushruta has illustrated the body's response to the element "Shukra". He has said

"Yatha payasi shareereshu sarpistu tatha goodashchekshow shukram satin nrinaam yatha vidyaadhbishagwara"

This means "Shukra (the element that helps in reproduction) is present throughout the body.

This can be explained by the following examples.

The ghee is present in milk in an invisible form. This is extracted from milk using many processes.
Sugar is present in all sugarcane. It is extracted from sugar cane subject to various processes.

Just as Shukra is present throughout the body. But the cream of Shukra (semen) that leaves the body only during ejaculation. But this process of ejaculation needs a joyful union of mind and body.

Decreased production of "Shukra" causes erectile dysfunction.

The effort - physically and mentally, work long hours at the office, mental stress at work and home, short temperedness, erectile dysfunction, lack of sleep causes.

These causes are explained in Ayurveda as "shoka, chintaa, bhaya, traasaat ...." which means that erectile dysfunction or impotence occurs due to pain, fear, anxiety and terror.

Strained relationship with sexual partner: Erectile dysfunction also occurs when there is an aversion to the sexual partner.

Ayurveda describes this as "naarinaamarasamjnatwaat ..." means rejection of the woman.

Diseases that cause erectile dysfunction

Neurological disorders, hypothyroidism, Parkinson's disease, anemia, depression, arthritis, endocrine disorders, diabetes, diseases related to cardiovascular system also become reasons for erectile dysfunction ..

According to ayurveda the diseases which cause erectile dysfunction "Hritpaandurogatamakakaamalashrama " Heart disease, anemia, asthma, liver disorders, tiredness Apart from these imbalances in the tridoshas also causes impotence or erectile dysfunction.

The consumption of medicines, drugs and snuff: Using antidepressants, tranquilizers and antihypertensive medicines for a long time, addiction to snuff, especially smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, cocaine, heroin and marijuana cause dysfunction ED.

In Ayurveda texts these causes have said in few words like "rukshamannapaanam tathoushadham" - "dry food, drinks and medicines" cause impotence or erectile dysfunction.

Trauma to pelvic region: accidental injury to pelvic region and surgeries for the conditions of the prostate, bladder, colon, or rectal area may lead to erectile dysfunction.

These causes are mentioned as abhighata (trauma), shastradantanakhakshataha (damage of weapons, teeth and nails.) In Ayurveda.

Other reasons cause erectile dysfunction

Obesity, prolonged bicycle riding, history of sexual abuse and old age can also cause erectile dysfunction.

Ayurveda describes the cause of impotence or erectile dysfunction due to old age as follows. "Reduction of - tissue elements, strength, energy, life span, inability to take nourishing food, bring the physical and mental fatigue impotence"

Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

ED is treatable at any age. The total treatment of impotence is called as Vajikarana therapy in Ayurveda. As this therapy increases the strength of a man to perform sexual act, like a horse, is called 'Vaajikarana. ('Vaaji "horse =).

Vaajikarana therapy leads to

Home Remedies For Neck Pain

Neck and Jaw Pain Relief the Natural Way

What is Neck Pain?

Neck Pain is a common complaint these days that forces the afflicted individuals to look for a number of conventional as well as natural home remedies for Neck Pain that sometimes work and sometimes do not work. The reason behind this inconsistency is the lack of knowledge about the actual reason causing this non specific ailment. Neck Pain is mostly caused by muscular tightness, joint disruption and other such factors.

Neck Pain, also known as Cervical Pain is generally not considered a serious condition unless caused by some serious factors.

Injuries affecting the soft tissues present in the muscles, tendons or ligaments of the neck usually cause Neck Pain. Abnormalities in the bones and joints of the spine may also give rise to Neck Pain or Stiffness.

Causes of Neck Pain

Muscle strain due to poor posture is one of the most common causes of Neck Pain. Minor activities like gritting the teeth, reading a book on the bed in a wrong posture or improper sleeping posture have been known to cause straining of the neck muscles thereby causing chronic Neck Pain.

Conditions like Whiplash injuries, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Meningitis, etc may also cause serious Neck Pain. Moreover, as the age increases, the joints present in the neck tend to develop Osteoarthritis due to the normal degeneration of the neck joints.

At times, Bone Spurs caused by Cervical Spondylosis or other degenerative disc disorders may compress the nerves present on the neck, thereby causing Neck Pain.

A condition called Diffuse Skeletal Hyperostosis characterized by abnormal calcification in the tendons and ligaments of the spine may lead to stiffness and pain in the neck.

Other factors include problems like herniation of the cervical disc, changes in the structure of the cervical intervertebral discs or congenital abnormalities of the discs may also trigger Neck Pain.

Conditions like Depression, Psychological Stress, Insomnia and other related problems may also cause Neck Pain due to involuntary tightening of the neck muscles.

Symptoms of Neck Pain

The most obvious symptom of this ailment is the presence of a mild or severe pain in the neck. In case of Neck Pain caused by pressing of the nerves, symptoms like numbness, tingling or weakness may be felt on the hands, shoulders or other parts of the body.

Other symptoms of Neck Pain include headache, inability to touch the chin or the chest due to severe pain, limited range of neck movement, stiffness in the upper back, changes in bowel movements, etc.

In addition, Cervical Spondylosis may also lead to dizziness or blackout. Neck Pain and tenderness accompanied by a sharp or electric pain in the shoulder is considered serious.

Natural Home Remedies for Neck Pain

• Various stretching exercises serve as excellent natural home remedies for Neck Pain, especially in case of muscle injuries. These exercises help to strengthen the neck muscles thereby acting as a natural cure for neck stiffness and pain.

However, these stretching exercises should be performed carefully to avoid further injuries. Shoulder rolls, neck rotation, neck tilting, neck bending, upper back stretches and back bending are some of the most common stretching exercises that help in the home treatment of Neck Pain.

These exercises should be performed two times per day, preferably in the morning after waking up and at night before going to sleep so as to avoid stiffness in the neck.

• Massaging the neck and upper back muscles is one of the most effective home remedies for Neck Pain. Massaging with natural aromatic oils tends to relax the neck muscles and hence reduces and heals Neck Pain to a great extent.

• Acupuncture therapy is yet another highly beneficial natural remedy for Neck Pain. It is particularly beneficial in the natural treatment of chronic Neck Pain.

• Cold compresses and ice packs are the most popular natural home remedies for Neck pain. About 15 to 20 minutes of application of these methods helps to ease Neck Pain and Neck Stiffness by reducing tenderness. While following this home remedy, remember not to place ice cubes directly on the skin.

• Similarly, application of heat also serves as one of the most widely used Neck Pain home remedies. This remdy is particularly helpful when used after the application of ice packs. Application of heating pads or having hot baths help to relieve Neck Pain naturally by improving blood circulation.

• Relaxation exercises like yoga, deep breathing and meditation are also considered as efficient natural remedies for Neck Pain caused by Stress.

Diet for Neck Pain

A healthy diet with special emphasis on adequate amount of magnesium, calcium, vitamin D, fibers, antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids is highly beneficial in preventing as well as curing Neck Pain.

Therefore, foods like green leafy vegetables, fish oils, walnuts, soy products, legumes and whole grain products should be positively included in the diet when dealing with Neck Pain, whether mild or severe.

Plus, consume plenty of water throughout the day at regular intervals in order to avoid dehydration. Water helps to maintain the natural electrolyte balance in the body that is necessary for the normal functioning of the nerves and muscles.

Besides, restrict the consumption of flesh foods with saturated fats that help cause inflammations. Smoking and alcoholism should also be avoided in order to avoid Neck Pain due to weakening of the joints.

Apart from these measures, adopt the habit of maintaining a good body posture at all times, especially while sleeping. Certain individuals have reported an improvement in the intensity of Neck Pain simply by dumping the habit of using pillows while sleeping.

Moreover, experts suggest that opting for fetal sleeping postures while sleeping instead of sleeping on the stomach is another effective natural treatment for Neck Pain.
